Lazy Sunday

Sunday is a slow, leisurely day in Jamaica. Most stores aren’t open, there’s not much more to do but relax and enjoy yourself, which is what we were dedicated to today. After breakfast, we hung out and chatted for a while and just as we were thinking about going for a walk around the area so that I could get acquainted, a big storm rolled through. We ended up staying inside and learning a card game named “Grass” that was such an intelligently designed game. I’m going to try to find it and bring it back to play at home.
The afternoon moved just as languidly, with some photography, some computer work and a nap. As evening fell, we headed down to New Kingston to see this big, outdoor fashion show, called Fashion Block, the capper to their fashion week. They had a 40 foot open air runway, mainly Jamaican, but also a bunch of international models and designers, and it was headlined by Ed Hardy. The music was good, the models were great, including several “supermodels”, there were a few good collections, but way too many for one show, and the quality varied considerably. The other problem with the show was that they had this obnoxious MC named Jerry Dee, apparently the most popular radio personality in Jamaica, who would talk throughout, with little to no knowledge of fashion, just trying to make it about himself. As the show progressed he was saying less and less while the models walked which made it easier to appreciate the clothing.
I’ll be posting up some photos when I have more time and I’ll add the link here when that happens.
