Return to Nine Mile

February 3, 2009 | 2 Comments | Authored by Kate

Project 9 Mile Phase 2! Mina and Che are heading back to 9 Mile with Tiffany, Mark and Kate to celebrate Bob Marley’s Birthday and continue building.

The purpose of this trip is to develop partnerships that will support arts and culture programming in 9 Mile. We will be meeting up with local dancers, musicians and radio personalities to learn about their role in the creation and preservation of the arts in Jamaica. The next step in the initiative will be to run a film and photo project telling the story of 9 Mile through the eyes of the youth participants. We hope to explore them in the richness of their community’s past, opportunities in the present and goals for the future, to create a space for leadership to flourish, and produce high quality media to garner support for continuing, community-led, arts and culture programming.

We are shooting and filming everything and want you to see it, so stay tuned for more posts!

Hi, we recently visited the Stepney all ages school in nine mile Jamaica whilst on our holiday as we donated several items of stationary equipment to the head of school. Our family live in Brough, East Yorkshire, England and the Head Teacher of my 5year old son would like to contact the Stepney School where we visited to exchange photos etc.
Do you have an email address so we could contact the school please

    Kind regards

    Mrs Katie Stephenson

  • Hello, my name is Ivan Flynn, I am in my 70th but I still remember my one and only three days at Stepney in 1949 JR. Teacher James was on staff then. I also made comment about him in my soon to be published book A CHECKERED PATH TO DESTINY.
It is a pleasure to see where things are today as compared to where they were in 1949
